Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council
Who We Are
Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council is dedicated to serving the local Aboriginal community by protecting cultural heritage and fostering connection to Country.
Our catchment area spans approximately 5,900 square kilometres, stretching from Merimbula Bridge to Aragunnu and from the coast across the Snowy Mountains to the Murray River.
We work to ensure our members have access to opportunities that support social, economic, and cultural wellbeing. Through land management, education, and community engagement, we promote sustainable growth and cultural pride.
Our services
We provide cultural and land-based services that honour tradition and protect Country. Through ceremony, education and environmental care, we share knowledge and strengthen community.

Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony
Welcome to Country is a powerful cultural protocol acknowledging the Traditional Custodians of the land and pays respect to our enduring connection to Country, culture, and community. If you'd like a Welcome or Smoking contact us below.

Cultural land management services
At Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council, we are proud custodians of Country. Our Cultural Land Services connect community, culture, and environment, ensuring that land is cared for in ways that honour Aboriginal knowledge and traditions. For enquiries contact us below.

Cultural burning
Cultural burning has cared for Country for thousands of years. At Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council, we continue this tradition by applying fire in ways that respect cultural knowledge, support biodiversity, and keep communities safe.

Cultural heritage assessment
Cultural heritage is central to Aboriginal identity and community. At Bega Local Aboriginal Land Council, we provide Cultural Heritage Assessments to ensure that sites of cultural significance are respected, protected, and properly managed for future generations.
Our projects
Our projects are designed to empower our community, especially our young people, through hands-on learning, cultural connection, and skill-building. Each initiative supports our commitment to caring for Country, preserving culture, and creating strong, resilient futures.

Koori youth on the move
Koori Youth on the Move is supporting young people to gain independence and practical skills. The program assists youth in obtaining their driver licences while also teaching essential car maintenance knowledge—such as how to change a tyre and care for a vehicle safely.

Katt-Hoo youth training café
The Katt-Hoo Café is a vibrant new addition to our youth programs, providing young people with opportunities to develop hospitality skills in a supportive environment. The café offers quality coffee, refreshing cold drinks, and a selection of delicious Indigenous-inspired treats that celebrate culture and community.

Surfing with the mob
Surfing with the Mob has quickly become one of our most popular youth programs, giving young people the chance to experience new activities and adventures. From surfing and fishing to travelling for cultural and sporting events, and even snowboarding, the program encourages confidence, connection, and fun. With more exciting opportunities on the horizon, this program continues to grow and inspire.

Junior rangers
Junior Rangers are actively engaging with Country, gaining hands-on experience in caring for the land. The program introduces young people to traditional practices, learning about cultural burning, and participating in bushland restoration, while building knowledge, responsibility, and pride in culture. The program builds awareness of the connection between traditional science and the western approach.
